“I easily engage and reach out to my fellow young people with Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information through social media. As a Peer Educator, this approach has helped me to forget about issues of mobility which used to prevent me from reaching many young people in my area which has over 14 small villages,” remarks by 18-year-old Sarah Josamu who hails from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kaphuka in Dedza district.
Sarah is among the Peer Educators who were trained by YONECO on how to effectively use various social media platforms to engage other young people on SRHR issues.
The training was conducted through Action for Teen Mothers Adolescent Girls in Central Region of Malawi Project which YONECO is implementing in Dedza and Mchinji district with support from UNFPA Malawi and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KIOCA).
After the Social Media for Development Training in March 2022, Sarah created a WhatsApp group called ‘Kaphuka Youth’ which currently has a total of 87 boys and girls from her area.
